In early December, the 27 young people involved in the Norman Youth Convention for the Climate made their 45 recommendations for taking action in Normandy against climate change. This youth consultation organized by the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace and the Normandy Region, with the support of the academic authorities of Normandy, as part of the Education Program for Sustainable Development Goals Walk the Global Walk is a first in Normandy.

Since 2017, with the support of the Normandy Region and the academic authorities of Normandy, the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace has been raising awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to 1,000 Norman students every year using its methods. education in human rights and democratic citizenship, as part of Walk the Global Walk, an educational program implemented in 12 European states.

Each year as part of this educational project, all 12 partner states bring together young people at a European summer school at the end of the school year, canceled this year given the health situation we have been going through since the month of March 2020. The objective of this European summer school was the creation of a White Paper, which contains recommendations from young Europeans to help achieve Sustainable Development Objective 13: "Measures relating to the fight against change climate ”, the SDG which was at the heart of the reflections of this 2019/2020 school year.

A means of expression and participation by young people, this white paper is handed out each year to local authorities in the 12 partner states as well as to European authorities.

Instead of this European meeting, the Norman partners of the program: the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace, the Normandy Region and the academic authorities of Normandy, organized a Convention of Norman Youth for the Climate, like the Citizen's Convention for the Climate which took place in France.

The objective of this consultation was to allow young Normans to express themselves and to think about avenues for improvement in order to fight climate change in Normandy, by making them agents of change by formulating their recommendations.

The 27 young people consulted are Norman students involved in Walk the Global Walk, members of the Regional Youth Council of Normandy, young people with disabilities monitored by LADAPT in Caen and eco-responsible students in agricultural high schools in Normandy. They met on Tuesday, November 10 by videoconference and then worked remotely using collaborative digital tools to collectively develop 45 recommendations. They chose the themes they wanted to address and wrote each of these recommendations.

These recommendations were presented by the young people and the team of the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace on the occasion of the 4th Normandy Meetings for Sustainable Development which took place on December 17, 2020 in Rouen (Normandy ) with the theme “Climate change: which Normandy in 2100?”, in front of elected officials, Norman decision-makers and a panel of local experts.
